Shocked to learn his diagnosis, Matt was devastated and in denial. Three days later he decided to face his treatment journey like a long expedition. His advice to other patients: think positively and keep your body moving. This helped Matt make it through his bone marrow transplant.

Jairo Venegas shares his story about the day he found out he had glioblastoma/brain cancer. After visiting the doctor for a headache, Jairo got a CT scan and was shocked to find out that there was something abnormal in his brain. Just a week later, he was scheduled to have surgery. Through his experience, Jairo found that having a smile on his face, being patient and upbeat helped him a lot as he faced his diagnosis, surgery, and the struggle with temporary memory loss.

After having two breast biopsies and then receiving a call from her doctor the very next afternoon, Camille Mills says that she instinctively knew she had cancer. She was diagnosed with stage I non-aggressive ductal invasive carcinoma. Watch as she discusses the first question she asked the team of doctors who treated her. Camille also shares about her treatment, which included a lumpectomy as well as interstitial breast brachytherapy, a type of radiation.

Colon cancer survivor Moon Wong was scared on the day he found out he had stage IV cancer. He talks about seeking help from an SCCA counselor to help deal with his diagnosis, especially how to tell his children. After having surgery to remove about 10 inches of his colon and two months of intense chemotherapy, Moon underwent another operation and more chemotherapy.

When Bob Feutz was first diagnosed with prostate cancer, he contacted his friend who was the chair of the Washington State Prostate Cancer Coalition and a prostate cancer survivor. On a recommendation from this friend, Bob chose to be treated at SCCA and to participate in a clinical trial. The clinical trial therapy, which included Provenge, had a significant positive impact on his cancer.

At the young age of 17, Becky Greenway had surgery to remove a “benign” growth from her tibia and woke up to the news that she had cancer and that it had to be left in for the time being. In this video, Becky talks about facing a year of chemotherapy and multiple surgeries. Watch as Becky explains her treatment experience with her “extended family” at Seattle Children’s.

Diagnosed with rare leiomyosarcoma, Warren Bailey decided to travel from his home in Anchorage to Seattle to be treated at SCCA. The cancer in Warren’s leg had metastasized to his lungs and within a month after diagnosis, he had been through three surgeries. A top-ranked international racquet ball player, Warren uses athletics as a platform to spread awareness about cancer.
